Seen at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 14, 2024 (first screening). Format: Normal cinema. Rating: 8/10. I’m amazed at how this movie can be so many things at once. Comedy, drama, action, thriller, self-exploration and musical. He balances each genre and gives it enough time without seeming too much. Every acting performance in this movie is outstanding, especially Zoe Saldana in the first half of the movie and Karla Sofía Gascón in the second half of the movie, who perfectly played two roles in this movie. Unfortunately, with anything involving Selena Gomez, more effort should have been put into her acting and character. A very weak character who was only there as filler to complicate things for the main character and story events. Although musicals are not my thing, this film handled that part in such a unique way that every performance of the song was creative in terms of direction and lyrics. The two songs that really caught my attention is the one that touches on the political aspect in Mexico and it’s placed in such a creative and unique way. The second was really a testament to Zoe Saldana’s performance as it was excellent despite the darkness and minimal lighting.
